[09MAY22] Lufthansa Group purchases further state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft

The Lufthansa Group has confirmed the purchase of more state-of-the-art long-haul aircraft: seven Boeing 787-9 long-haul passenger aircraft; three Boeing 777F freighter aircraft (current technology); seven Boeing 777-8F freighter aircraft (new technology). With Boeing´s new long-haul aircraft, the Lufthansa Group will continue to modernize its fleet with aircraft among the most fuel-efficient and sustainable long-haul aircraft in their class. The Boeing 787-9 passenger aircraft consume about 25% less kerosene than their predecessors, the 777-8F freighters nearly 15% less kerosene. Both aircraft will have an equally positive effect on the carbon footprint.

[28APR22] Lufthansa integrates option for carbon-neutral flying into booking

With a single click, Lufthansa customers can now easily minimize carbon emissions of their flights. After flight selection, they can further choose one of three options to fly CO2-neutral: use SAF and directly reduces CO2 emissions; use high quality carbon offset projects run by the non-profit organization myclimate; or a combination of the first two options. An option can be selected while booking. Payment is made when buying the flight ticket, thus making CO2-neutral flying for passengers significantly easier.

[28APR22] Contactless travel with facial recognition at Hamburg airport

After a successful introductory phase, the Star Alliance biometric face field recognition system is now officially launched there. With the new service, participating passengers from Austrian, SWISS and Lufthansa will be able to pass through security and boarding contactless and quick. In future, a single glance will suffice - without a boarding pass or smartphone. The Star Alliance Biometrics platform, on which the technology is based, was already successfully launched in November 2020 at the Frankfurt, Munich and Vienna hubs with the aim of providing passengers with a seamless travel experience. Hamburg Airport is thus the fourth participating airport.
