Malaysia Airlines brings a taste of the country to Spitalfields with Kricket

Malaysia Airlines brought a taste of the country to Spitalfields at a pop up restaurant at Kricket, with restaurant founders Will Bowlby and Rik Campbell.

The acclaimed East London duo served up a feasting menu to showcase a new perspective on the tastes and traditions of Kuala Lumpur and Penang along with Malaysia Airlines’ onboard offerings. Their unique twist on Malaysia’s most celebrated flavours and dishes were enjoyed by representatives from the media, business partners and the Malaysia Airlines team.

Chef Will Bowlby and restaurateur Rik Campbell have recently returned from a culinary adventure to Malaysia, during which time they visited Kuala Lumpur and Penang, touring street markets, spice gardens, fishing villages and traditional farms, and cooking alongside some of the most respected fine-dining chefs in the country.

Taste Tour - partnership with tourism boards and trade partners 

The special menu served to guests throughout this week was inspired by their experiences and was exclusive to the Malaysia Airlines Taste Tour restaurant. The Malaysia Airlines Taste Tour was conducted in partnership with tourism boards, Tourism Malaysia, Penang Global Tourism, travel partner Flight Centre and hotels, Traders Kuala Lumpur and Shangri-La Rasa Sayang. 

Kricket is a selection of restaurants combining British ingredients with the flavours and aromas of India. Since opening within a 20-seat Brixton shipping container, the acclaimed restaurateurs have gone on to launch permanent restaurants in Soho, Brixton and White City. 

It is hoped that the pop-up restaurant will inspire guests to fly with Malaysia Airlines and experience all that the country has to offer for themselves. Malaysia Airlines operates twice daily between London and Kuala Lumpur on its new Airbus A350. Guests can book their tickets and holidays with Malaysia Airlines’ travel partner Flight Centre.

Daniel Bainbridge, Malaysia Airlines’ Regional Manager for the UK and Europe, said: “We are delighted to have brought the flavours of Malaysia to London with the help of Rik and Will, on our largest activation of the year. We hope that their take on the country’s cuisine combined with our onboard offerings will have encouraged guests to visit Malaysia and experience for themselves the country that inspired the delicious food they enjoyed at our pop-up restaurant this week.”

Malaysia Airlines flies direct twice daily from London Heathrow to Kuala Lumpur onboard the new Airbus A350.
