“Like travelling without leaving the sofa during lockdown”
OTT’s POP Awards crowned the destinations, airlines, cruise lines, accommodation and visitor attractions which had attracted the most agents course passes as well as the industry’s marketing maestros.
The Awards also honoured OTT’s Gurus – agents who have taken OTT courses to expand their knowledge, helping their customers to make more informed choices and making more sales.
Over the past few weeks we’ve been speaking to some of our Gurus and finding out more on how they use OTT to expand their knowledge.
This week, we catch up with our Leisure Travel Guru and OTT Legend, Kerry Elgey of Tailorwade...
What does your company specialise in?
I specialise in tailormade holidays to bucket list destinations at affordable prices.
When did you first start using OTT?
I first started using OTT March 2020, during lockdown.
How many courses have you taken?
I’ve taken over 200, with at least one new course each week
How does OTT help your professional development?
The OTT courses are a fabulous free research offering interesting and informative content. The easy to use modules make the training easy to navigate and the certificate at the end is a great asset to share with customers. I also welcome the fact that you can revisit the courses at any time to refresh your knowledge.
How do you fit OTT’s courses into your working life?
Usually in the evenings or weekends. It great that you get regularly emails informing you that new courses have been added as it keeps you focused. The courses work well on on all devices formats so I have even found myself doing them on a train, long haul flight to South Africa and a beach in Mexico!
Name your favourite course – and why?
I loved all the OTT courses it was like travelling without leaving the sofa during lockdown but one of my favourites was Austrian cities. It brought back wonderful memories of my first holiday without my parents over 30 years ago and reignited my desire to visit again.
What’s your top tip to those on the journey to becoming a Guru?
Invest as much time to training and research as you can. When sales and enquiries are quiet, use this time to expand your knowledge and challenge yourself to complete at least one training course a week.
What’s been your favourite travel adventure?
I have been so lucky with my personal travel adventures that it’s so hard to pick just one, so I am going to pick three! My two weeks to Tibet and China were amazing and the locals so welcoming, but Sri Lanka is equally wonderful. I would definitely recommend a touring holiday here. Give yourself at least 2 weeks to combine a mixture of culture, beach relaxation and unforgettable safaris.
And thirdly and completely different, family time at Walt Disney World Florida. I challenge you not to fall under the spell of Disney and enjoy every minute being a big kid again!
