Dynamic destinations and travel gurus celebrated at OTT’s POP Awards

06/04/2021 By Katherine

OTT celebrated the most popular courses and avid learners at the online course platform’s annual POP Awards.

The awards, presented by travel and lifestyle broadcaster Lisa Snowdon, celebrated the destinations with the most popular courses on the platform in 2020 and those which achieved record breaking course pass results. The event also recognised the platform’s ‘Gurus’ – the travel professionals who had taken and passed the most courses.

The POP Awards were presented in an hour-long live broadcast stream featuring an energetic mix of pre-filmed video footage introducing the shortlisted destinations and the videos from event sponsors including Gran Canaria. During the broadcast, Lisa linked up live to chat to award winners across the globe on Zoom.

The awards, which were filmed with full compliance to COVID-19 regulations, were broadcast live from a mystery hotel in London, which was revealed at the end of the programme as the H10 London Waterloo. Viewers guessed the location from a series of clues screened during the livestream for the chance to win a luxury break. The event was also broadcast on dedicated travel industry station Travel.Radio, which also hosted the pre-show warm up party.

Awards revealed the "depth of passion" for travel industry

OTT founder Julia Feuell said: “Our awards were a chance for the travel industry to come together online and celebrate something positive in a truly difficult year. As well as celebrating courses with the most engagement and passes, live link ups during the broadcast enabled us to chat to our event gurus. These chats revealed the depth of passion of those working within our industry, with a real desire to get customers travelling again once restrictions allow.”

While lockdown has curtailed travel, it certainly hasn’t restricted the appetite of our agents to grow their knowledge online. The POP Awards were informed by statistics and attention minutes recorded by the platform. Our Legend of Legends – Zoheb Akhtar from Kenward Travel – has spent the equivalent of 10 months over the past few years honing his travel knowledge through passing more than 350 courses with OTT.”

Last year’s awards, also presented by Lisa Snowdon, were one of the last physical events to take place in London, this year’s event moved to a hybrid live and online presentation format with Lisa presenting from a studio set up at the H10 with awards accepted via Zoom.

Sponsors and supporters helped industry come together

Julia added: “Our thanks go to our headline sponsor GranCanaria, Malaysia Airlines, for sponsoring our wonderful Gurus, our celebrity sponsors Brimstone Hotel and Sherbet Taxis London, our supporters Travel.Radio and  H10 London Waterloo. We also thank our host Lisa Snowdon for her energy and professionalism, effortlessly glossing over minor technical hitches, Zoom silence or child-bombing moments with a friendly wave, and even some freestyle dance!”
