COVID-19 Update - 28 July 2020

New quarantine exemption countries

Estonia, Latvia, Slovakia, Slovenia, and St Vincent and the Grenadines have been added to the quarantine exemption list.

The advice against all non-essential travel to Spain now also includes the Canary and Balearic Islands.

Local lockdown changes

Additional lockdown restrictions have now ended in Charnwood and Blaby, and some restrictions have now been relaxed in Leicester City and the Borough of Oadby and Wigston. However, the advice remains to shield in these areas. The review date has been changed to 30 July. Updated guidance for Leicester is available here, including for meeting people outside your household.

A list of areas with additional local restrictions has been added to a collection page and includes information for local authorities, residents, and workers about what to do and how to manage the outbreak.

An overview of the Government’s approach to managing local outbreaks has also been published.

Reporting outbreaks

Public Health England has launched a campaign that provides advice to businesses on how to identify and respond to a local coronavirus outbreak. The campaign seeks to help business operators:

  • Identify an outbreak of COVID-19 (one or more confirmed cases depending on the business or organisation)

  • Report the outbreak to local health protection team

  • Work with local health protection team to respond

As part of the campaign, PHE have produced a series of different action cards for different business types. I’ve attached the main ones relevant to members – the full range can be downloaded here.

Other Government updates

  • The Eat Out to Help Out restaurant finder tool now shows results within a 5 mile radius of the postcode used.

  • Updated weekly data (up to end of Sunday 26 July) is available for the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and the Eat Out to Help Out Scheme.

  • Updated weekly data for the Coronavirus Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CBILS), Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan Scheme (CLBILS), Bounce Back Loan Scheme (BBLS) and Future Fund Scheme is available.
