[2021.11]  Vaccination Certificate VeriFly Registration Now Possible in Japan

The digital health credential application "VeriFLY" can now be used in Japan for flights from Japan to the U.S. mainland (excluding those to Guam and Hawaii). In line with U.S. COVID-related entry requirements, VeriFLY can now handle vaccination certificates in addition to the existing test results. Register the vaccination certificate in the VeriFLY app beforehand, then present it at the check-in counter on the day of departure for a smoother boarding process.

[2021.09] Inflight Meals for the Future with JAL's 'RED à table'

As of Oct 2021, JAL will introduce "RED à table" in economy and premium economy classes: in-flight meals for the future. Menus will be created based on three themes: 'Love for the Planet'; 'Love for Society' and 'Love for Ourselves'. Our meals will be created with the aim of reducing our impact on the environment; reducing food loss; passing on food culture; connecting with society through traditional cooking methods and ingredients; and offering delcious, healthy, nutritious meals for everyone's well-being.



[2021.07] JAL "Face Express" Facial Recognition Technology Starts on International Flights

On July 19, JAL begins full use of facial recognition for its boarding procedures for international flights departing from Haneda and Narita airports with "JAL Face Express". Upon registering your photo of your face at one of the initial registration points at the airport, such as an automatic check-in machine, you can proceed through the boarding procedures - check-in, checked baggage, security check point, boarding gate - without presenting your boarding ticket or passport. This reduces the number of touchpoints throughout your journey creating a smoother and safer air travel experience.


[2021.06] Introducing JAL's 'SKY Wellness Kitchen'

The 2nd meal choice in JAL Economy and JAL Premium Economy on select daytime international flights from Japan will be one of the new meals from our 'SKY Wellness Kitchen’ by TANITA Cafe. The first dish to be offered will be a healthy salad bowl filled with proteins, vitamins, and dietary fibre to boost your immune system.The meals will come with a health leaflet providing info on the immune system as well as TANITA Gymnastics' original stretches which can be easily done at home or at your destination. 


[2021.06] Success for Japan Produced SAF Project

On 17th June 2021, JAL conducted the very first flight (JL515 HNDCTS) with 2 different types of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) produced domestically in Japan loaded at the same time. One SAF was created from wood chips, and the other from algae. This flight marks the success of the project to produce SAF domestically in Japan, and is the next major step forwards towards the commercialization of domestically produced SAF expected by about 2030.


[2021.03] JAL Obtains APEX COVID-19 Safety Diamond Certification

JAL became the first airline in Japan to successfully receive Diamond Certification for providing the highest levels of safety measures throughout the travel experience. The inaugural audit was conducted by the Airline Passenger Experience Association (APEX) and SimpliFlying, in which the respective organizations evaluated and validated JAL`s COVID-19 safety measures through an extensive 58-point checklist.

Japan Airlines (JAL) has been certified by Skytrax with a 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating, becoming one of the few airlines worldwide to achieve the accolade. The Skytrax COVID-19 Rating is a trusted assessment and certification of airline health and safety measures during the coronavirus pandemic that is based on professional and scientific investigation of the standards being provided by an airline at the airport and onboard flights.

[2020.09] JAL and Volocopter Sign Agreement to Develop and Launch Air Mobility Service in Japan

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Volocopter GmbH (Volocopter) entered into a cooperation agreement to promote the development of the urban air mobility industry for next generation air transportation options of passengers and goods. [2020.08] Trial to Touchless Check-in Kiosk

At Tokyo Haneda Airport, we had a trial for state-of-the-art check-in kiosks that utilize infrared touchless sensors. By holding their fingers 3cm in front of the screen, customers can make selection and check-in to their booked flight. This creates a check-in experience that is free from requiring the usual physical touch.
