9 MARCH 2016: 14 NEW DESTINATIONS ANNOUNCED

Qatar Airways’ Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker announced a significant network expansion of 14 new destinations at a capacity-crowd press conference on the opening day of ITB Berlin – the world’s largest international travel fair. Spread across four continents, the new routes will further expand the reach of the airline’s network, and will include the world’s longest flight, between Doha and Auckland, New Zealand.

New South-East Asian destinations for Qatar Airways include Krabi and Chiang Mai in Thailand. Auckland is going to be the first destination in New-Zealand, as well as the world's longest flight. Africa will receive Qatar Airways flights in Windhoek (Namibia), the Seychelles, Marrakech (Morocco), Douala (Cameroon), Libreville (Gabon) and Lusaka (Zambia). New European destinations for Qatar Airways include Pisa, Sarajevo, Helsinki, Skopje and Nice.

1 MARCH 2016: DAILY FLIGHT TO SYDNEY

Qatar Airways today celebrated the arrival of its first flight from Doha to Sydney, making this the airline’s third gateway into Australia. A delegation of VIPs from Qatar, including Qatar Airways Group Chief Executive, His Excellency Mr. Akbar Al Baker, were met from the aircraft by Sydney Airport Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Ms. Kerrie Mather; Official Secretary to the Governor of New South Wales, Colonel Michael Miller RFD; Destination NSW Chairman, Mr. John Hartigan; and Tourism Australia Managing Director, Mr. John O'Sullivan.

The award-winning airline now operates a Boeing 777-300 daily from Doha to Sydney connecting Australian passengers to its global network of more than 150 destinations. Qatar Airways has been serving Australia since 2009 when it commenced flights to Melbourne, later adding flights to Perth in 2012.

JUNE 2015: DAILY FLIGHT TO AMSTERDAM

Qatar Airways, the award-winning five-star airline, has commenced services between Amsterdam and Doha with the inaugural flight landing at Schiphol Airport on Tuesday 16 June, welcomed with a traditional water cannon salute.

Amsterdam is the airline’s first destination in The Netherlands and its 34th in Europe. Passengers who arrived on board the inaugural flight were welcomed by hostesses in traditional Dutch dress and were presented with wooden tulips as part of the celebrations. Departing passengers and guests also enjoyed the celebrations with light entertainment at the gate prior to embarking on the return flight.

JUNE 2015: MULTI AWARD-WINNING QATAR AIRWAYS WINS ‘AIRLINE OF THE YEAR’ HONOUR AT 2015 SKYTRAX  AIRLINE AWARDS

Qatar Airways has been honoured with three of the top aviation accolades at the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards, winning Airline of the Year for a third time – a major accomplishment for an airline to reach multiple times.

The highest ranking in the annual Skytrax awards category, Airline of the Year is a testament to the commitment and dedication to service excellence and a high-quality travel experience for all passengers that fly with Qatar Airways. It is a reflection of the five-star calibre service that the Qatar Airways is renowned for.

The award comes at a time when the airline has experienced remarkable growth, given the major enhancements to its fleet in the last 10 months, with the entry into service of the Airbus A380 and the Airbus A350 as the Global Launch Customer.

In addition to the Airline of the Year award, the airline also collected two other awards: Best Business Class Airline Seat and Best Airline in the Middle East – which Qatar Airways has won for the eighth time.
