Aeromexico's history began i1934, with the founding of Aeronaves de México. By the fifties, the carrier had opened offices in 21 cities in Mexico and two in the United States. In 1988, the company was incorporated as Aerovías de Mexico, S.A. de C.V., keeping the airline’s business name and Eagle Knight Insignia. The airline had 25 aircraft and around 3,500 employees.

The carrier grew significantly between 1989 and 2010, with the addition of the following new products and services:

As a founding member of SkyTeam -the global airline alliance- Aeromexico offers customers 1,000 destinations in 177 countries served by the 19 SkyTeam airline partners, rewarding passengers with benefits including access to 672 premium airport lounges around the world. Aeromexico also offers travel options on its codeshare partners flights with Delta Air Lines, Alaska Airlines, Avianca, Copa Airlines and WestJet, with extensive connectivity in countries like the United States, Brazil, Canada, Colombia and Peru.

Grupo Aeromexico’s operating fleet includes 120 aircraft consisting of the Boeing 787 Dreamliners, 777 and 737 jet airliners and next generation Embraer 170 and 190 models. In 2012, the airline announced the most significant investment strategy in aviation history in Mexico, to purchase 100 Boeing aircraft including 90 MAX B737 jet airliners and 10 B787-9 Dreamliners.

Today, Aeromexico has 9 Boeing 787 Dreamliners -considered the 21st-century aircraft that operate long-haul routes such as Amsterdam, Buenos Aires, Madrid, Paris, Tokyo, London, New York and Santiago de Chile. These aircraft greatly improve travel conditions for passengers while also significantly reduces fuel consumption, increasing the scope to further destinations and reducing maintenance costs. Grupo Aeromexico will be the first Latin American airline to operate this equipment.
